Lightweight design and build makes it easier to transport, load and offload the crawlers from trucks. JLG and Hinowa, leading handling equipment manufacturers locally represented by Eazi Sales & Service, announced at the SAIE conference in Italy an agreement that will see Hinowa manufacture JLG-branded, ultra-lightweight crawler boom lifts for the global access market.

JLG is expanding its range of aerial work platforms (cherry pickers) with the addition of five specialty boom lifts, ranging in working height from 14m to 23m. These highly versatile articulated boom lifts feature a light overall vehicle weight, the ability to pass through narrow spaces, and outriggers that automatically level on uneven surfaces.

“These new MEWPs [mobile elevated work platforms], more commonly known as crawlers or spider lifts, answer to the market’s demand for operating on surfaces that require low ground bearing pressures,” says Larry Smith, Managing Director at Eazi Sales & Service. “Lightweight design and build also make it easier to transport, load and offload the crawlers from trucks, offering our customers far greater mobility and versatility.”

The models will be manufactured with three power options; electric powered by lithium-ion batteries, petrol or diesel, and combustion for indoor and outdoor use. A track wheel carriage will further help the crawlers travel over sensitive flooring and grass, through mud, and even climb stairs. “JLG developed these crawlers to service hard to access places such as atriums, lobbies and mezzanines, as well as areas where conventional machines aren’t applicable because of their size and weight.”

Other applications include maintenance on high ceilings, where narrow access and doorways prevent standard machine access.

“Eazi Sales & Service will bring these innovative, reliable and easy to operate machines to the local market in July 2012; offering after sales support services including parts, repair and maintenance, training, and technical support,” says Smith.
